Canadian under-20 team edges Guatemala 1-0

TORONTO (CP) -- Iain Hume scored on a penalty shot in the fifth minute play and the Canadian under-20 soccer squad held on to beat the Guatemalan under-20 team 1-0 in an exhibition game Sunday night.

Canada was awarded the shot after midfielder Miguel Campos was fouled in the penalty area.

Hume has scored five goals in the team's last three games.

     Wojtek Zarzycki posted the shutout.

The Canadians tied the Guatemalans 3-3 in the first game of the three-game series Friday night in London, Ont. The third game is to be played Tuesday at the University of Guelph.

"It was an untidy game by both sides, but we got the win and I'm pleased with the result," said Canadian head coach Paul James. "A lot of our players are inexperienced at the international level and they need to learn how to put teams away and get results.

"They are learning what it takes to win at this level and I'm proud of them."
