Argentina works after loss
JERUSALEM (AP) -- Argentina's soccer team had some work to do after a unexpected loss to
Israel.
After losing Wednesday 2-1, the Argentines on Thursday placed small notes with requests
into the cracks of the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest shrine.
Jewsh tradition says wishes made at the Western Wall, the last remnant of the Jewish
Temple, have a better chance of being heard by God.
His head covered by a paper skullcap worn by observant Jews, coach Daniel Passarella
reached high to push his paper in between two stone blocks.
After a walk through Jerusalem's walled Old City, Passarella and his team also visited the
Church of the Holy Sepulcher, built over the site where tradition says Jesus was crucified and
buried.
Israel coach Shlomo Sharf termed Wednesday's win a "historic achievement" and fireworks lit
up the Jerusalem skyline moments after the final whistle.
