60,000 tickets go on sale
PARIS (AP) -- The French Organizing Committee put 60,000 extra tickets on sale Tuesday for
the upcoming World Cup.
The tickets came from a supply that was returned to the French organizers from national
soccer federations which did not use them.
As a result of Tuesday's sale, the number of tickets made available to soccer fans in
recent weeks in 18 European subscriber countries now totals 170,000.
But even that does not come close to satisfying demand.
Telephone sales since April 22 have drawn millions of hopeful purchasers. The overwhelming
majority have been sorely disappointed and got nothing but a busy signal on the jammed phone
lines.
