Thursday, April 2, 1998Saudi's take a breakMANAMA, Bahrain (AP) -- The Saudi national soccer team is taking nearly a two-week break for the Muslim feast of sacrifice."But they are ready to display a good performance and show the world how good they are on the field," in the World Cup, Khalid bin Fahd al-Housien, the assistant manager of the Saudi Football Federations' information department, said Thursday. In a telephone interview from Riyadh, al-Housien said the Saudi team would not play during the holidays. The team will reconvene in Riyadh April 10 to resum light training under Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira. At the 1994 World Cup in Atlanta, the Saudis were the only Gulf Arab nation to reach the second round. Saudi Arabia will play Denmark June 12, before playing France June 18 and South Africa June 24 in first-round games.
