Friday, April 3, 1998Scot signs four-year dealGLASGOW (AP) -- Craig Brown has signed a four-year deal to remain as Scotland's manager into the year 2002.The popular Brown was named Scotland manager in November 1993, succeeding Andy Roxburgh. Since then, Scotland has played 38 matches -- winning 20, drawing six and losing 12. His most important achievement has been to qualify Scotland for the 1996 European championships and this year's World Cup finals in France. "This contract will make him the longest-serving Scotland team manager and is a reward for his excellent record," said Doug Smith, chairman of Scotland's Football Association. Scotland captain Gary McAllister spoke for his players. "The fact that he is staying is good news for Scottish football, as it keeps the continuity going," McAllister said. "It means Craig will be in charge hopefully for the European Championships in 2002 and the World Cup finals."
