Even national team coach Leekens has lauded Scifo's recent return of form. But both coach and player refuse to take the first step to end the bitter row between the two. "In my mind, the gate to the World Cup is not closed yet," said Scifo, easily Belgium's most recognizable player abroad after being Belgium's playmaker in the 1986, 1990 and 1994 World Cup editions. After a lackluster start to the season, Leekens dropped the 32-year old for last month's exhibition game against the United States and Scifo said this showed such lack of respect that he threatened to end his international career.
