Wednesday, 20 May, 1998Argentina beats Chile in tuneupMENDOZA, Argentina (AP) -- A second-half goal by striker Gabriel Batistuta gave the Argentina national soccer team a 1-0 victory over Chile in a World Cup tuneup match.Chilean striker Ivan Zamorano missed a penalty kick in the 90th minute which would have tied it. Zamorano's shot went over the crossbar. Batistuta scored the only goal in the 47th minute before 45,000 spectators at Mendoza. In the 23rd minute, a creative play by Ariel Ortega and Claudio Lopez ended in a shot straight at the goal by Batistuta that was caught by goalkeeper Nelson Tapia. On the goal, Lopez ran down left wing from midfield to the penalty box and centered to Batistuta, crouching almost to the ground. He headed the ball into the net.
