*Cards add Lachemann and Lansford to staff; name Walker VP*

The St. Louis Cardinals today added Rene Lachemann and Carney
Lansford to the team's coaching staff and promoted Jerry Walker
to vice president of player personnel.
Lachemann, the former manager of the Florida Marlins, will
handle the third base coaching duties for Cardinals manager Tony
La Russa. Lachemann worked as a coach for six years under La
Russa with Oakland.
Lansford, a former player under La Russa with Oakland, will
serve as the Cards' bench coach and infield instructor.
The Cardinals also announced that pitching coach Dave Duncan,
bullpen coach Mark DeJohn, hitting coach George Hendrick and
first base coach Dave McKay are returning for the 1997 season.
Walker will continue to assist vice president/general manager
Walt Jocketty with the major league operations and will also be
responsible for overseeing the club's player development and
scouting activities in his new position.
The Cardinals also announced that Joe Sparks and Jeff Scott,
both former members of the Detroit Tigers organization, have
been named to the Cardinals major league scouting staff.
