*Sixers sign C Rick Mahorn, waive C Benoit Benjamin*
    ----------------------------------------------------

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia 76ers added some
experience to their frontcourt today by bringing back
    40-year-old center Rick Mahorn.

A 17-year veteran, Mahorn signed a contract with Philadelphia at
undisclosed terms. He was the only Sixer not to play in
    tonight's 94-81 victory over Sacramento.

Mahorn played the last two years with the Detroit Pistons and
was limited to 59 games last season due to injuries. He played
for the Sixers in 1989-90 and 1990-91.

The 6-10 Mahorn will serve as a backup center behind Matt Geiger
and can can also be used at forward behind Theo Ratliff, who has
    battled knee problems.

Mahorn spent four seasons in New Jersey before landing back in
Detroit. He previously played four years with the Pistons and
was a major part of their "Bad Boys" squad that won the title in
    1989.

The 260-pound Mahorn played his first five NBA seasons with the
Washington Bullets. He has averaged 7.0 points and 6.3 rebounds
    in 1,101 career games.

To make room for Mahorn, the Sixers waiver center Benoit
Benjamin, who played just 33 minutes over six games.
