#Burger King Entering Fifth Year Of
    College Football Scholarship Awards#
    ------------------------------------

More Than $4.3 Million Awarded So Far To
    211 Universities' General Scholarship Funds

MIAMI, Sept. 8/PRNewswire/ -- Fall is in the air, students are
returning to class with thoughts focusing on academics. Another
thing in the air is football -- college football. Nothing
brings out a fan's passion like college football, especially
with BURGER KING(R) supporting it. By now reporters should have
received the Burger King College Football Scholarship Program
Press Guide so that student athletes can easily be identified
(If you haven't, it's not too late to call 305-378-7277 to
    request one).

The Burger King College Football Scholarship Program is the
single largest corporate commitment of its kind in the sport of
college football. Since the program's launch in 1995, Burger
King Corporation has donated $4.3 million to the general
scholarship funds of colleges and universities throughout the
U.S., in honor of the athletic prowess, outstanding academic
achievement, and community contributions of college football
players. This year, Burger King Corporation will donate yet
another $1 million in college scholarships through the College
Football Scholarship Program in recognition of 80 deserving
    Scholar Athletes.

"We're proud of our affiliation with college football and to be
in a position to contribute to a university's or college's
general scholarship fund," said Richard Taylor, vice president,
Marketing, Burger King Corporation. "Our company's $1 million
annual contribution recognizing student athletes will help other
deserving students who have hopes of attending college."

Since the program's inception, 211 colleges and universities
have benefited from the Burger King College Football Scholarship
Program. Among the previous 312 Scholar-Athlete winners, many
have gone on to medical school, dental school and law school.
Others have become teachers, bankers, financial advisors and
would-be authors. And, yes, several are now playing
professional football. The Burger King College Football
Scholarship Program is part of Burger King Corporation's
worldwide commitment to giving back to communities in which they
    do business.

"Last year's 'Burger King Scholar Athlete of the Year' was Josh
Penry from Mesa State College who, since graduating, has become
press secretary for Arizona's House Representative Scott
    McGinnis," said Taylor.

Developed to foster the pursuit of athletic and academic
excellence while encouraging social awareness and community
service, the Burger King College Football Scholarship Program
salutes 80 college seniors, spread equally among the four
college football divisions. Each week throughout the 10-week
program, Burger King Corporation names eight Scholar Athletes,
two from each division. In recognition of each Scholar Athlete's
achievements, Burger King then donates $10,000 in the athlete's
name to his school's general scholarship fund.

From the 80 Scholar Athletes selected, four National Finalists
-- one from each college football division -- are honored with
an additional $25,000 scholarship. From the four national
finalists, one is chosen as the "Burger King Scholar Athlete of
the Year." Burger King Corporation establishes a $100,000
scholarship endowment for the school of this honored athlete.
The winner of the "1999 Burger King Scholar Athlete of the Year"
    will be announced in December.

Scholar Athletes are selected from college football's four
divisions. An esteemed panel of judges from the American
Football Coaches Association and Burger King Corporation is
responsible for selecting the Scholar Athletes. Criteria for
becoming a Scholar Athlete include being a starting senior,
maintaining a 3.0 grade point average (out of a 4.0), possessing
strong leadership qualities and demonstrating a commitment to
    community service.

Burger King Corporation and its franchisees operate more than
10,500 restaurants in all 50 states and 54 countries and
international territories around the world. Since the company's
founding in Miami in 1954, the BURGER KING(R) brand has become
recognized for great flame-broiled taste and HAVE IT YOUR WAY(R)
food customization. In fiscal year 1998, the BURGER KING(R)
system had system-wide sales of $10.3 billion. Burger King
Corporation is a part of Diageo (NYSE: DEO), the international
food and drinks company, that includes such brands as Pillsbury,
Haagen Dazs, and Guinness. To learn more about the BURGER
