ORLANDO, Fla.--(BW SportsWire)--July 27, 1998--
Sunshine Network's Year-Round Coverage of Seminoles Exceeds Expectations
FSU Athletic Department and Sunshine Network Partner to Produce
Taped Coverage of Six 1998 Football Games
Will Air Sundays at 7pm & Mondays at 8:30am
Sunshine Network and Florida State University announced today
that the network will produce and televise taped coverage of six FSU
home football games this season, bolstering the network's strong
year-round coverage of FSU athletics, which rivals that of any other
Division I university.
The football replays, coupled with the network's comprehensive
year-round coverage of FSU athletics, provides Florida State with
significant exposure and provides FSU fans with more programming than
ever before. It underscores a relationship between the University and
Sunshine Network that has continued for more than a decade and
provides countless hours of FSU programming on the statewide network
including athletics and public affairs shows spotlighting academics
and cultural events in Tallahassee.
The football games selected will air live on national networks or
in regional syndication, but will also be produced by Sunshine
Network, with its own announcers and production crew, for airing
statewide and in more than 4.5 million homes on Sunday evenings at
7:00pm and Monday mornings at 8:30am.
FSU and Sunshine Network mutually selected the following six 1998
FSU football games for replays:
Duke at Florida State (9/19) Sunday, September 20 7:00pm
Monday, September 21 8:30am
USC at Florida State (9/26) Sunday, September 27 7:00pm
Monday, September 28 8:30am
Clemson at Florida State (10/17) Sunday, October 18 7:00pm
Monday, October 19 8:30am
North Carolina at Florida State
(10/31) Sunday, November 1 7:00pm
Monday, November 2 8:30am
Virginia at Florida State (11/7) Sunday, November 8 7:00pm
Monday, November 9 8:30am
Florida at Florida State (11/21) Sunday, November 22 7:00pm
Monday, November 23 8:30am
Additionally, Sunshine Network has a separate year-round
programming agreement with the Atlantic Coast Conference and Raycom
Sports, which provides even more FSU programming, such as more men's
and women's basketball, baseball, softball, and other sports, to the
network and its viewers. That agreement also provides Sunshine with
the weekly "ACC Live" program, which premieres in September.
In addition to the football replays, Sunshine Network will also
air the "Florida State Seminoles Preseason Special," premiering
Friday, August 18, at 6:30 p.m. and a bowl special. "Seminole Sports
Magazine" airs Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and Mondays at 3:30 p.m.
beginning August 29. The new season of "Seminole Uprising" premieres
Sept. 3 and will air Thursdays at 11:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30
a.m. The network's carriage of "The Bobby Bowden Show" will also be
enhanced with a move to Sundays at 12:30 p.m.
"Our contractual relationship with Sunshine Network as a priority
partner affords us a very unique level of exposure and enables us to
add programming to suit our present needs in an ever changing
environment," said Dave Hart, Director of Athletics at Florida State.
"We appreciate what Jim Liberatore and his staff do on our behalf,"
Hart added.
"We are pleased to be enhancing our coverage of FSU football
while at the same time continuing our commitment to year-round
coverage of FSU athletics and public affairs programs," said Jim
Liberatore, Sunshine Network Corporate Vice President and General
Manager. "We are always working with our collegiate partners to find
ways to enhance our coverage and increase our offerings. This
underscores our commitment to providing FSU and its fans with the one
of the best overall television agreements in the country."
Sunshine Network is Florida's largest and leading regional sports
and public affairs network, providing more coverage of Florida-based
events and programs than any other media outlet in the state. The
partnership between Florida State and Sunshine Network dates back to
1987, when the University became the first institution to sign a
programming agreement with the network, which launched in March 1988.
Over the years, programming featuring Florida State University has
increased significantly. Future plans call for additional games,
events and programs to be added to the network's year-round schedule.
