PRO FOOTBALL NOTEThursday, August 14, 12:12 PM*Cowboys G Nate Newton accused of sexual assault* ------------------------------------------------- Dallas Cowboys All-Pro guard Nate Newton has been accused by an unidentified woman of sexual assault, according to authorities. Deputy Chief Brad Geary of the Grand Prairie, Texas Crime Investigation Bureau said that a woman filed a complaint against the 35-year-old Newton, alleging Newton forced her to have sexual relations in her home at approximately 1 a.m. local time on June 15th. He has yet to be charged. Geary said the complaint was filed on August 8th and was accepted for case presentation before a grand jury by the Dallas County District Attorney's office five days later. He added that a decision is expected within 15-20 days. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound Newton, affectionately nicknamed "The Kitchen" because of his size, has played his entire 11-year career with the Cowboys after attending Florida A&M and a subsequent two-year career in the USFL. He has made five straight Pro Bowls, the most by a Dallas offensive lineman since Rayfield Wright (1971-76) and the most by a Cowboys guard since John Niland (1968-73) went to six straight. Newton has started 64 straight regular-season games and leads the current members of the line with 166 starts in a Dallas uniform. |
