The Ottawa Senators took signed the 37-year-old Ledyard, an unrestricted free agent, to a multi-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 15-year veteran joins his eighth team after electeding not to re-sign with the Boston Bruins. Ledyard had four goals and eight assists in 47 games for the Bruins last season. The Winnipeg native has recorded 351 points and 728 penalty minutes in 913 career games while adding 17 points in 68 playoff contests. He also has played for the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks. Ledyard had his best season with the Dallas Stars in 1993-94, registering a career-high 46 points while playing in all 84 games. After four years in Dallas, he signed with the Vancouver Canucks for the 1997-98 season. On March 3, 1998, he was traded to the Bruins for an eighth-round draft pick. Since Ledyard was signed after the NHL's waiver draft on September 27, the Senators were required by league rules to place him or another player from their protected list on waivers.
