British Airways recently asked Ali Campbell, one of the founding members of the band UB40, to curate a list of the best concert venues on the planet. Judging by his selection, the US and the UK are still prime destinations for music fans.
If you're looking to combine a beach vacation with world class concerts, Hawaii could be just the best place. The Islands of Aloha are home to the Armadillo, which Ali Campbell describes as "probably my favourite location."
The iconic Greek Theater in Los Angeles is also included in the British singer's list of the top 10 concert venues, along with Red Rocks in Colorado. "You have to drink plenty of water as it's 6000 or so feet above sea level, believe it or not," Campbell comments of the famous natural amphitheater. A reference among musical theater fans, New York's Radio City Music Hall also earned a spot in the selection.
Campbell placed Birmingham's NIA at the top of his list, though he admits that he is not exactly impartial. "Coming from Birmingham, the NIA will always hold a special place in our hearts," he confesses. "We're due to be playing there on April 17 and it's bound to be another fantastic gig."
The list also includes the Cradle of Humankind in Johannesburg, South Africa; the Sartory-Sale in Cologne, Germany; the Ahoy Rotterdam in the Netherlands and the Glasgow Apollo in Scotland.
