VICTORIA, B.C. - Actors Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor and Robbie Coltrane are among 10 celebrities who paired up with Scottish silversmiths to create works featured in an exhibition at the Royal BC Museum. Based on the theme "a drink with a close friend," the pairs collaborated to produce elaborate drinking vessels. "Not only does this collection feature the work of Scotland's finest silversmiths, but it'll surely bring a smile to your face," says museum CEO Pauline Rafferty. "Once you see Ewan McGregor's motorcycle-inspired coffee pot or Sir Sean Connery's gilded drinking bowl, you'll soon realize that this isn't a typical silver exhibition." "Silver of the Stars" runs from Oct. 23 to Jan. 10. It has toured internationally since 2007, appearing at venues including London's Victoria and Albert Museum, the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the World Art Museum in Beijing. A companion exhibit, "Millennium Collection for Bute House," features a selection of tableware created in 1999-2000 for use at the official residence of the head of the Scottish government. Both collections were commissioned by the Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh. - On the web: www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca This story was posted on Mon, October 19, 2009 More HeadlinesChristmas in Canada's capital serves up something for everyoneWith 2 tours and museum, 'The Third Man' still going strong in Vienna Toronto film fest explores mental health and addiction, includes discussions Family run wineries in Arizona prove to be their own wine charms Soviet past lives in Moldova's tiny Trans-Dniester |
