Man removed from flight because of odour
By QMI Agency

A man with foul body odour was removed from an Air Canada Jazz flight bound for Montreal, Que., from Charlottetown, P.E.I., earlier this month, Charlottetown's The Guardian newspaper is reporting.

Penny Walsh of Charlottetown was on the flight. She told the newspaper she had a cold and couldn't smell the man, but other passengers weren't happy about the odour.

"The guy next to me said, 'It's brutal,'" Walsh said.

Walsh said she observed as the flight crew escorted the man from the plane before takeoff. She said she thought it was for the best.

"It's a very uncomfortable situation. I honestly think in this situation they handled it appropriately," she told The Guardian.

Air Canada Jazz communication manager Manon Stuart confirmed a man was removed from a flight on Feb. 6, but Stuart said he couldn't discuss specific information.

"Our crew dealt with the situation according to our standard operating procedures," Stuart told QMI Agency in an e-mail.

When asked about scents that could be bothersome to fellow passengers, Stuart said, "Jazz does not have an onboard scent policy regarding perfume or aftershave."

Stuart said crew members will do whatever possible to handle a situation before asking someone to leave a plane, but in some cases, "it may become necessary for our crew to remove passengers whose behaviour is perceived to pose a threat to the safety and/or comfort of our passengers, our crew or our aircraft."
