According to reports this week the European Union is sponsoring a project to create smartphone apps which will make travel within the EU easier.

The EU-sponsored project, known as Mobinet, will start rolling out in 2014 and once complete -- which is expected to be in June 2016, will offer travelers access to services such as real-time travel assistance and parking guidance.

In addition the system also intends to introduce a unified app store and mobile payments system which will allow them to access ticket services throughout Europe via a single account, rather than having to individually purchase numerous tickets.
