If you're among those of us intimidated by the sheer vastness of Disney World, you might find this new website helpful. DisneyWorldMoms.com was launched by Disney just a few weeks ago to help families navigate their way through its parks, resorts, restaurants, restrooms and just about anything Disney. A panel of moms -- including one Canadian -- wise to the wonderful world of Disney answer online questions daily from parents trying to plan a safe, happy and workable vacation to the Florida family hot spot. 250,000 HITS In the few weeks the site has been in action, it has handled thousands of questions -- the site scored 25,000 hits in its first day, and two weeks in there were already 240 pages of Q&As.
"As more and more parents look to the Internet for advice," says Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World, "this online forum led by real park-savvy parents will serve as an effective way for guests to ask specific questions about visiting the Walt Disney World Resort." The easy-to-navigate, practical site allows future park-goers to pose questions -- everything from where to stay, to where to eat, how to avoid lineups and where and when to encounter favourite characters. The panel of moms -- 12 total -- view the list of daily questions, choose the ones within their expertise, and provide detailed answers. British Columbia resident and park aficionado Brigitta Noer beat out hundreds for a spot on the Mom's Panel. Every day the single, working mother of a 7-year-old daughter volunteers hours to the site to answer families' questions. "I've been going to Disney World since about 1975," Noer says, explaining how she landed the job. "I don't think I ever missed a year. I have continued this tradition with my daughter who has been there nearly 10 times. My parents still travel with us on all of our Walt Disney World vacations." Noer adds that before this job came along, she was working unofficially as a Disney planner, helping her friends and neighbours map out their Orlando vacations. While many trivia junkies write in to DisneyWorldMoms.com trying to expose how much the Mom's Panel really knows about Disney, Noer says she focuses on answering the queries of families in real need of advice. The questions are varied. Stefani asks whether she should visit Disney World in August or September. BEAT THE HEAT "I would choose the end of September myself," Noer answers, "just for the simple fact of the heat possibly being a problem for the little ones." Concerned about over-packing, Jennifer asks how much stuff she should bring for her family's stay in a "value room" and whether or not she should pack towels. Noer, who considers budget travel within her expertise, answered that value rooms may be budget-oriented, but they still provide towels.
