TripAdvisor's users have chosen five destinations in Latin America as part of the top ten up-and-coming travel destinations.

Based on the greatest increase in positive traveller feedback and traveller interest year-on-year, travel website TripAdvisor published this week the top ten up-and-coming world destinations as well as top ten lists for the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America.

The destinations were chosen based on positive feedback, number of clicks and "want to go" pins on the website during the past year.

Beach resort Mar del Plata in Argentina, tops the travellers' choice world destinations list this year. A destination long frequented by the country's elite, Mar del Plata offers more than 16 km of beach and an alternative for those seeking some sun during the winter months in the northern hemisphere.

Neighbor Sao Paulo in Brazil lies in second place with its cultural and gastronomic offerings. According to the website, the metropolis, which is home to more than 10 million people, has something to offer for every traveller.

Kiev in the Ukraine comes in third place. The country is part of the New York Times 45 places to go in 2012 list published at the beginning of the year. According to the Times, "Beautiful, historic cities like Kiev, Odessa and Lviv have seen modernization, restoration and fresh cultural energy, but are still cheap, laid-back and largely free of tourist traps."

With five destinations as part of the top ten, this year's big winner seems to be Latin America. Besides Argentina and Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico also made it onto the list with cities such as Montevideo, Mexico City and Guadalajara. No destination from Africa or Asia featured in the top ten.
