Canadians appreciate a lot of things about Texas -- its moderate winter temperatures, down-home hospitality, cowboy culture, Tex-Mex cuisine, lively arts and music scene, and excellent shopping.
In recent years, more Canadians are picking Texas for winter holidays and our growing fondness for the Lone Star State has not gone unnoticed by NorthPark Center, which has partnered with several Dallas-area hotels and declared February Canadian Appreciation Month. So next month, Canadian flags will fly at the shopping centre -- home to 235 retailers, restaurants and major department stores -- and participating hotels. And there are shop-and-stay packages exclusively for Canadians.
"Each year, we receive an increasing number of visitors from Canada -- largely from Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver -- and we wanted to show our appreciation for their support and make them feel special," said Anthony Wilkinson, NorthPark Center's tourism director.
Among the deals:
-- The Adolphus (hoteladolphus.com, use promo code: PS when booking): Package provides accommodation (with upgrade to executive suite when available), $50 in NorthPark gold shopping coins, welcome gift, restaurant discounts, valet and other services. From $159 (prices in US dollars) plus tax, per room, per night (double or triple occupancy).
-- Warwick Melrose Hotel (warwickmelrosedallas.com, promo code Canada). Package includes two nights' accommodation, $50 in shopping coins, welcome gift, transportation to NorthPark Center, admission to the Dallas art museum, valet parking and Internet. From $399 per room plus taxes. Extra nights available from $149.
-- Four Seasons Resort & Club (fourseasons.com). Deal offers accommodation, breakfast for two, $50 in shopping coins, valet parking at the resort and NorthPark Center, and a tax-free VIP service card. From $365 plus tax, per night for standard room (double occupancy).

In addition, the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau has arranged for some the city's top attractions to provide deals for Canadians. A list will be provided by participating hotels at check-in.
