User-generated travel review websites have become the most important and sought-after resource for globetrotters, according to a wide-sweeping poll of 35,000 travellers and accommodation owners. In TripAdvisor's annual TripBarometer report, which polled people from 26 countries across 7 regions, 69% of respondents said they consult travel review websites when making travel plans, ahead of online travel agencies, travel operators, family and friends. An overwhelming 93% of travellers worldwide also said their booking decisions are impacted by online reviews, while 51% of respondents said they've written a review of their accommodations after a trip. Meanwhile, free Wi-Fi emerged as the most popular hotel amenity to influence a traveller's booking decision -- echoing the same outcome of a Hotels.com report, which likewise found that the ability to stay connected was the most important amenity. The online reservation site also allows users to submit reviews. While free Wi-Fi was the most popular amenity for 86% of respondents, a free breakfast was important for 80% of participants.
