Whether planning a vacation or a business trip, travelers are likely to see WiFi as a decisive factor when selecting their hotel, according to a number of recent studies.

A survey of business travelers conducted by KDS revealed that a slow or overpriced internet connection is the primary source of annoyance during their hotel stays. These findings may be considered alongside those of a Hotels.com survey of 1,000 international tourists carried out last spring, which showed that the availability of in-room WiFi was seen as a top priority when selecting a hotel.

To date, 90% of hotels worldwide offer guests wireless internet at no extra charge, according to Kayak.fr. America (93%) and Europe (90%) are said to be the continents with the highest rates of hotels with complimentary WiFi, contrasting with Oceania, where just over one out of two hotels (55%) offer the service without charging a fee.

For the many travelers who see free, high-quality WiFi as a must, new website Hotelwifitest.com indicates which properties offer WiFi access with the cost of a room and ranks hotels according to wireless connection speed.
