"On the Road for 17,527 Miles" is one author's quest to retrace the route of Jack Kerouac's Beat Generation classic via the power of an online routefinder.

Featuring both "exact and approximate spots" taken from Kerouac's quartet of lengthy road trips across the USA, Gregor Weichbrodt's 66-page pamphlet complements the 1957 novel with 272 hours' worth of driving instructions courtesy of Google Maps' API.

The finished project can be read for free on Issuu.com, purchased in print from Lulu.com, or downloaded as a PDF from PayHip.

Presented as a poetic work, "On the Road for 17,527 miles forms part of "Poetry Will Be Made By All!" at the LUMA/Westbau exhibition space in Zurich, Switzerland, which runs until March 30.

The exhibition, whose title references a 1969 curation at Stockholm's Moderna Museet, is a collaboration between the LUMA foundation, the 89plus project and avant garde online art repository UbuWeb.

More visual representations of Kerouac's four trips can be found at DennisMansker.com and Littourati: Life, Literature and Maps (as noted by openculture.com).
