You understand why Fodor's has such a solid reputation for great travel advice as soon as you open one of their Gold Guides.
Their comprehensive reviews cover a broad range of tastes and prices, and offer suggestions for bar-hoppers and museum-goers alike.
The first section - the Gold Guide - provides destination-specific, alphabetized travel tips. This includes everything from getting a good deal on your flight and packing suggestions to etiquette and health information.
The guide also includes a brief history of Thailand and suggests various travel itineraries for those who want to plan a structured tour.
The main part of the guide is divided into regional sections. Each section reviews restaurants, accommodations, activities and venues. The lodging and food reviews are presented with a price code and range from budget to first class.
The book also indicates choices that are good for people travelling with children.
The reviews are very descriptive and comment on everything from interior decor to the best tables at restaurants.
While this guide is extremely text heavy - there are no photographs - it is a good general guide that has tones of useful background information and suits a variety of interests and budgets. It would be best for those who want to plan a structured vacation that includes seeing a little bit of everything.
