    Bertrand unsung hero for Laval

TORONTO (CP) -- Laval quarterback Mathieu Bertrand found himself thinking a lot about his father during the fourth quarter of the Vanier Cup.
After taking a solid hit from Saint Mary's Huskies linebacker Joe Barbatti at the end of the third quarter, the 21-year-old from Trois-Rivieres, Que., could only watch and pray with a sore head while Laval's defence held off the Huskies' frantic attempts to even the score.

Laval edges SMU for national title

By OMAR HAFEZ -- SLAM! Sports

     It was not.

Huskies breakdown leads to Vanier Cup win for Laval

TORONTO (CP) -- Stuck at the one-yard line on second-and-19 in the second quarter, the Laval Rouge et Or appeared to be in trouble.
Yet just three plays later, they scored a touchdown that would be the difference and went on to defeat the Saint Mary's Huskies 14-10 on Saturday to win the Vanier Cup, the CIAU's football championship.

St. Mary's pays tribute to Uteck

By TONY MARASCHIELLO -- Toronto Sun
Larry Uteck no longer is involved in the day-to-day operations of the St. Mary's Huskies, a football program he helped bring to national prominence.
But he undoubtedly will play a major role today when the underdog Huskies take on the Laval Rouge et Or in the 35th Vanier Cup at the SkyDome.
