Week Six: Jaroslav Svoboda
Calgary - The Sprint Canada - Western Hockey League Player of the Week is
right-winger Jaroslav Svoboda of the Kootenay Ice. Svoboda earned player of
the week honors by scoring two goals and six assists for eight points in
three games helping the Ice to a 2-0-1 record for the week.
Svoboda began the week on Tuesday, November 2nd scoring one goal and one
assist in a 5-5 tie against the Tigers in Medicine Hat.
On Friday, November 5th at home, Svoboda scored one goal and one assist in
a 6-2 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers. On Saturday against the
visiting Calgary Hitmen Svoboda recorded four assists in a 6-2 win over the
number one team in the country.
The nineteen year old from Cervenka, Czech Republic, has seven goals and
14 assists for 21 points in 17 games for the Kootenay Ice. Svoboda was
selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
As Sprint Canada - Western Hockey League Player of the Week, Jaroslav
Svoboda will receive a golf shirt courtesy of Sprint Canada.
Honourable mention goes to Ben Knopp of the Moose Jaw Warriors and to Scott
Myers of the Prince George Cougars.
