Catch Fishing!

I’ve always said that the best places in the world to get outdoors and experience fishing are right here in Canada. Just a short drive or within walking distance, most Canadians can find a  place to fish because from coast to coast to coast, Canada is surrounded by oceans, lakes, rivers and streams for everyone to explore. You’ve never tried fishing before? Well, National Fishing Week is just the excuse I can give you. We celebrate our great angling heritage throughout the year, but July 4 – 12, 2009 is an opportunity for everyone to get out there and create some memorable fishing moments. Across Canada, most provinces/territories have designated days where an individual can try fishing without having to purchase a licence and some provinces even have winter licence-free weekends.
The Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation (CNSF), a non-profit private/public partnership, sponsors the “Catch Fishing” program and National Fishing Week. The sportfishing industry, fishing organizations, local, provincial and federal agencies, along with thousands of volunteers, work together to promote fishing as a fun and unique way to learn the basics of aquatic stewardship, fishing ethics, angling skills and safety. As a child, I never realized it at the time but my family was doing just that during the many fishing trips we took - teaching me about nature and life skills. The lessons, memories and old photos are priceless!
Got some fun memories of your own to share? Post your pictures and videos online at our new website. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of National Fishing Week, the CNSF is launching this new website catchfishing.com. Event organizers are encouraged to list their fishing events throughout the year so Canadians easily find any events taking place in their surroundings. The new website is also the “go-to” place for information for new and seasoned anglers, volunteers, and for general information like fishing tips and provincial regulations and licences. This site also has everything you need to help you host your own successful fishing event that the kids are sure to enjoy.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy some of the best fishing opportunities in the world right here in Canada.  Now it’s your turn to have some fun and create some incredible memories by taking someone special fishing. The memories are always bigger than the fish … so don’t let one get away!
