Thursday, August 16, 2001Top Canadian Junior Players to Compete at the Golf Evolutions National Canadian Junior Championship at Royal Woodbine Golf ClubRichmond Hill, ON - Golfers from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Michigan, New York and Washington DC, will gather at the Royal Woodbine Golf Club in Etobicoke, ON, for the Golf Evolutions National Canadian Junior Championship to be played from August 21-24. Juniors will play 36 holes on August 21st in attempt to qualify for the match play competition. The field will be cut down to 16 juniors in the Boys 14-16 & 17-18 Division. The Girls and the Boys 13 & Under Division will be cut down to 8. The Intermediate Division will be cut down to 4. Juniors who place well at the National Championship receive world rankings along with National Canadian rankings.The Golf Evolutions National Canadian Junior Championship will have a very strong field, a lot of whom are champions of 2001 CJGA Buick Junior Tour events. Korey Pettit, winner of the CJGA Junior Classic and the CJGA Muskoka Junior Open will be coming off of a win at the inaugural PING Canadian Junior Match Play Championship for the Boys 14-16 Division two weeks ago. Pettit, 15, of Brantford, ON, will be a favorite to take the division title again at the National Championship. In the Boys 17-18 Division, 2001 Team Canada Member for Scotland and CJGA Junior Classic Esquire Excellence Award Winner, Matthew Bliss, is sure to put up a good showing and continue with his winning ways. With his recent experience in match play competition over in Scotland, Bliss will be ready for the challenge. Jesse Galvon from DeWinton, AB, who made CJGA history earlier this season when he became the first player from the Boys 13 & Under Division to win the overall scoring title, will be in attendance for the Championship. Jordan Mason from Delta, B.C. will be another junior to watch from the west coast. Mason fired a 6- under total at the Hall Auto Group B.C. Junior Championship to finish in second in his division. Also in attendance will be the PING Canadian Junior Match Play Champion from this division, Andrew Osborne of Paget, Bermuda. The Boys 13 & Under Division certainly promises some exciting possible matches. This will be the first year that the National Canadian Junior Championship will be sponsored by Golf Evolutions.
