"I prefer not to discuss AHL teams"
lmao!
and a very good post cgy. Liked reading it.
Listen, my patience is wearing thin on Gainey too. As I've stated in the past. He has had ample time to get the big centerman every great team needs. Never been deep on the blue line...even by todays shallow standards.
but look around the league........the top teams haVe 13 and 14 wins this season. The habs have 10.......with a weak, injury depleted, new line up. Fire Gainey?..........not yet.
Get Markov, Obyrne back. See how good Price is going to be. Some nights he looks like the best....playing in Montreal is not like playing in Pittsburg. He may take longer to iron out those bad nights and be more consistent....as Flurey has done. Get rid of Kostitsin..... Subban next on the horizan.....we'll see.
10 wins..............ya got think having Markov and Obyrne would have added atleast 2 wins for 12. The 3 beSt teams in the league have 14.
they must be doing it with mirrors because the way some of you describe this team and disect it.....they should have no wins at all.
anyways..............nobody is gonna beat the Flyers.

Gomez...a few shootout goals, none in tha last 12 games...Who in his right mind gives that kind of money to a player that is not even within radar range from the goal production that a player worth that kind of coin reaches!!?...Gainey was a fool, and in a panic, when he mortgaged all of that valuable cap space on one guy for quite some time. That's 2 Plecanecs or similar! Could we use two more players like Plecanec right now? Darn right, we could!!... Now, nobody else...well maybe BB-gunner would in a "gotta save my arse" panic, similar to Gainey's...would even consider taking on Gomez, if and when he's be available. Gionta and Cammelleri were not bad moves, even if they're small. Gomez, although an excellent playmaker when he wants to be, isn't worth the coinage that Gainey has dropped on the team's cap space. Just for that, Booblah should've been ousted then. I'm sincerly hoping that it'll happen soon, before he makes another bonehead move that will deepen the Habs way down lower to the loofs level, and worse...If such could be possible.

Glen Sather and Bob Gainey thats who. 11 Stanley Cups between them and a life time in the NHL.
Every GM that ever worked in the any of the pro sports leagues has overpaid for a player. Because you are a Montreal Candiens fan you want/expect the Habs to be the exception to that? Is that what your telling us. Get real. Suck it up. Stop whining.

There are 3 teams with double digits in the loss column in regulation play. Montreal, Toronto and Carolina. Right now Montreal is 11th or 12th in the east and key players are getting injured. That's what Ever is concerned about. He's not whining. He knows that their 7 million dollar man is not going to be able to help them. If I were a Hab fan I'd be concerned also. Losing Giannotti doesn't bode well for the future. All they got left now is 2 good hockey players and a goalie. Doesn't bode well for the future.

what you an autority Bob.....2 players and a goalie.............the same player you guys refer to as a midget and laughed at when Gainey signed him....is now an irreplacable loss that doesn't "bode well for the future"
every team has injuries..........."other guys have to step up".....it's a cliche because it's the truth
he is whining
Carolina and Montreal are missing their best player........everyone knew those were crippling losses......and would be with most teams.
I'm surprised the habs are 500 with the line up they have.
leafs got their best player back..........they were losing big time without him........they are losing big time with him..........how does that "bode for the future" Bob

Very true. Especially in the pre-cap days, GM's were spending like drunken sailors. Lots of bad contracts (Keerist, the Islanders are paying a cpa hit of over $2M every season until 2014-15 for Yashin).
But there is a difference between overpaying a player and MONUMENTALLY overpaying for a player.
Why is Gomez MONUMENTAL? Very simple:
Below is a list of forwards making $7M or more this season (cap hit is less in some cases - eg: Hossa) and where they currently rank in NHL scoring:
Kovalchuk (ATL) 35th
Iginla (CGY) 36th
Hossa (CHI) N/A
Nash (CLB) 7th
Richards (DAL) 16th
Zetterberg (DET) 13th
Horcoff (EDM) 177th
Gomez (MTL) 123rd
Drury (NYR) 232nd
Gaborik (NYR) 2nd
Captain Chicken$hit (OTT) 31st
Spezza (OTT) 125th
Briere (PHI) 107th
Crosby (PIT) 20th
Malkin (PIT) 49th
Heatley (SJ) 9th
Thorton (SJ) 3rd
Lecavalier (TB)50th
Ovechkin (WSH) 5th
So there you have it. Scott Gomez is among the top 20 paid forwards in the NHL and sits a whopping 123rd in scoring. Now, of course you can read and he's not the worst of the bunch on the surface so let's take a look at the over $7M club who can't crack the top 100 in scoring:
Horcoff (EDM) 177th - Thankfully, the only smart think K-Lowe did when he put this deal together was to take advantage of the fron-loading option so at least Horcoff is only a 5.5M cap hit
Drury (NYR) 232nd - signed by the same pinhead who signed Gomez and like Gomez, his Salary and cap hit are not much different
Spezza (OTT) 125th - If anyone on this list is capable of turning things around, it's him.
Briere (PHI) 107th - Same number of points as Gomez and almost the same salary. The difference, he has 11 in 14 (0.78PPG) where Gomez is 11 in 21 (0.52PPG)
So there you go. Proof that the Gomez contract is among the worst in the NHL and that any GM dumb enough to trade for that contract is a complete and utter RETARD.

The guy is still a midget. No one said he was irreplaceable. But because he was one of their better midgets it doesn't 'bode well'. Now if you are trying to say that you got someone on the farm that can fill his shoes then my question would be 'why did they go out and pay so much for Gianta to begin with or why isn't that other guy not already playing with the big team.
What I stated was a fact not an opinion. If you want to debate my 'doesn't bode well' comment; bring it on. But you will lose.

That was a JFJ move, and i called for his firing the minute that one happened. But... i see you are now saying Gainey is about as good as JFJ. That's a start i guess.
"Every GM that ever worked in the any of the pro sports leagues has overpaid for a player."
Once again, you fail to realize that Gainey didn't just sign GOmez to that deal... he traded his top ranked prospect to get it. AFTER everyone in the hockey world had proclaimed that contract a huge bust. So once again, THAT is why it was officially a "retarded" move. Trust me... as a Leaf fan watching JFJ... we know them when we see them.
The one move i really liked from Gainey was Camaleri. That one was a no-brainer, and would have liked to see him here it TO. But ah well... instead he's now a midget smurf to me.

Looking like maybe it wasn't a bad signing at all, considering where he is now and going forward. And the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders given up haven't been heard from for 3 years, while the team actually did have a first round pick that year anyhow. (Anaheim's)

Habs you are exactly the kind of mindless salivating baboon that hero worships their team no matter what mistakes they make.
That is precisely why you repulse me.
No I will not suck it up or stop whining as you state. Who the phack died and made you Chief Habs Thought Police Czar tracking down dissidents to place in jail. What are you the Habs Gestapo?
Evers has a point. I like Gomez. I do. But Evers and the other Habs fans have stated the obvious and that is both Gainey and Sather are typical of the idiot GMs who over pay players.
He's a checker. A third line centre being paid for more then he is worth and he is what on the Habs exactly other then a third line centre?
Are you a complete baboon? Do you really think ANY NHL checker is worth that kind of money?
Of course not. The fact I like him and he is on the Habs does not change that and Evers has a right to say it like it is-it takes up Cap space.
I was suprised Gainey did not take back money in that deal. I really was.
By the way Habs wake up. Pull your head out of your chear leading buttox. When was the last time Sather or Gainey won anything. Oh do tell.
In sports fool, its what you do not what you have done. Reputations Habs are for Paris Hilton.
Now get out of my face with your pom poms and go do your 4skin routine with someone else.
Not only are the hockey Gods angry but moi. Gainey and Martin are history. You read it here.
Wilson the way it looks will stay at least until the end of the olympics. Gainey and Martin, who knows.

I repeat again I like Gomez on the Habs but the price was heavy and he is a 3rd line checker. He is not a no.1 centre and never was. In fact his talent is being wasted having him play on the first line. A team with 4 checking lines is insane.

as Steve Simmons writes........"they were a bad team defencevly before he got there.......their even worse now".
Wilson is ruining Schenn.
but hey they finally won two in a row. Coach of the year potential.
