Topic: Leafs Worse Now Than in Ballard Years

Message:
Absolutely pathetic.

"With the miserable Maple Leafs in the basement, fans are evoking memories of the bumbling old days of the Harold Ballard era.

Hey, c'mon, folks, the Ballard days weren't this bad.

This year's Leafs, having won three of 20 games, are on pace for 12 victories -- or maybe a baker's dozen if they get lucky.

During Ballard's 19-year term as principal owner, the Leafs never won fewer than 20 games and missed the playoffs only five times from 1972 to 1990.

The current Leafs, under the condo-flogging, basketball-dribbling, soccer-scuffling Maple Leaf Short of Entertainment Ltd., are on target to miss the playoffs for the fifth year in a row!
"

Yep! They were THAT BAD!...During the '70s, it seems that Ballard totally lost his marbles. We just heard about all the crap happening to that team. Most of us (in school) were Habs fans and were busy watching the Glory Years unfolding into a second dynasty of Stanley Cups championships for Les Canadiens de Montreal. The poor kids that were loofers were outcasts in our circles.
Then, I lived through the Ballard/McMillan (his live-in beotch) soap opera while living in Toronto during the '80s. He finally kicked the bucket in '87, I think. The arsehole was a crook anyways. He scrooged the Conn Smythe family out of their team, much the same way ol' Ebenezer did it to his partner, Fesiwick. Conn Smythe built the Gardoons, and built the loofs to the team it was until its last Stanley Cup. Then, Ballard cursed this team to being the eternal loser it still is today.
In MTL, they have the "ghosts of past Stanley Cups from the Ol'Forum" that followed to the Bell Centre. Not always there every game though.
In Toronto, they have "the demons from Maple Loofs Gardens" haunting them in the ACC. Crazy Harry lived in Maple Loofs Gardens apparently. He had an apartment in there, somewhere.

But BB has a plan.

Leafers seem to forget....so do the other 29 teams.

And theirs are actually in motion.

I feel for you leafers, I really do. I'm kind of quiet Leaf fan, anyway, truth be told. You finally have a real shot at the best 18 year old in the world and BB goes and...

I think the franchise's biggest downfall is 2 fold:
1. too often management let's fan emotion influence decisions (ie. keeping Sundin too long)
2. fall victim to 'the flavour of the month' syndrome (thinking a blowhard, megalomaniac like Burke is the answer)

How would Schenn, Nazeem Kadre, the first overall this year and a top 3 next year look?

Schenn developing horribly.

Kadre 5th on his team in scoring....70th in the league.

Don't have 1st rounder this coming year or next.

I'de say things look under BB they way they looked under JFJ.

Uncompetetive.
