Habsall, what is the reaction in Hamilton to the Dogs moving to Laval? I think that the organization is making a huge mistake moving the kids so close to the scrutiny of the press here. I believe that they are better to get accustomed to them slowly, when they are at training camp or when they are called-up for a while.

Took awhile but good to see you're finally admitting that the press in Montreal can affect young hockey players.

There is still a chance that it won't happen. Laval had tentative federal funding for the new arena, calling it a multi-sport complex. Now that the CH has said that they will move the Dogs into it there is a lot of backlash, mostly from quebec city, who was refused fed $$.
FYI, Laval is the 2nd largest "city" in Quebec, but there is no 'downtown' area. Fans would have to drive to the arena. I can't see it lasting more than 5 years.

Sucks for Hamilton for sure. But the hockey fans there will not suffer for long. It's a decent market and I am sure that someone will relocate their AHL team there. Although given the fact that Hamilton has a very large Hab fan population, it might impact the success of another team a little bit.

I can see the advantage of putting the team in Laval. For the next few seasons, the Habs are going tobe doing a lot of experimentation with their team. Anytime there is a rebuild going on, a lot of players tend to move often between teh pros and the minors. Having the team closer allows for the management to better evaluate the talent. Plus it makes last minute call-ups much easier.

I think it's worked for the Leafs but as Habs points out, I don't think it would be such a good idea. With the Habs going into a full rebuild there is going to be more and more scrutiny on the farm team. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if more media memebers showed up there than at the Habs games. And then 18,19 and 20 year old kids get to read everyday about how they will never make it in the NHL. All because, God forbid, they had one bad game.

No, for the good of the franchise, the team needs to keep it's farm team at a distance. I'm not sdaying OKC distance like the Oilers but just keep them in Hamilton.

Hamilton fans are loyal and committed. If the Leafs had any brains they would waive their territorial claim and lobby the NHL to move a team into Hamilton.

There are probably more real hockey fans in the area from Toronto to Buffalo than there are in the entire United States. An NHL franchise would flourish in Hamilton.

Not sure if I would pick Hamilton as the location but a 2nd team in the GTA/Golden Horseshoe area is a no-brainer.

Too bad Butthead and the BOG's don't see it that way.

There were some talking heads on tv the other night claiming that phoenix is going to Seattle, followed closely by an announcement of 2 expansion teams. One to quebec and the other to s. Ontario. Did anyone else hear talk of this? They were speculating that the expansion will be to smooth the collective bargaining.
