 Veteran racewalker Tim Berrett qualified for his third straight Olympic Games. In 1996 he was a solid 10th in the 50 kilometre walk and in 1992 he was 14th in the 20 kilometre walk. Berrett has set numerous Canadian records including the 20 kilometre (1:22:27.0) in 1996 at Seattle; the 50 kilometre (3:56:14) in 1991 at Saskatoon; the five kilometre (18:67.56) in 1993 at the Canadian Championships in Winnipeg.

 Born in Britain, Berrett came to Canada in 1987 on a Canadian Rhodes Foundation Scholarship. He graduated in 1986 from Oxford University in philosophy, politics and economy and obtained a Master's degree in 1989 from Queen's University. He has been a lecturer at the University of Alberta since 1992. His wife, Tara Croxford, was a member of the Canadian field hockey team.
