A determined effort at the combined U.S., and Canadian Olympic trials in
rifle put Cari Johnson on her first Games squad for Sydney. She won both
the three position and air rifle events at the trials held at Benning Air
Force Base in Georgia this past May and will shoot in both events at the
Games.
Johnson has gained plenty of international experience since 1996 includin g
a participation at the 1998 world championships where she placed 51st. Her
goal at the Games is set personal best scores. She started shooting at age
13 and participated at both the 1991 and 1995 Canada Games. She carried
the B.C. flag at the opening ceremonies in 1995. Her parents are former
competitive shooters.
