Christopher Kalec posted the best performance of his career at the Olympic trials in June to finish second behind Alexandre Despatie on men's 10-metre tower and grab the final berth on the Games' squad. It included a successful reverse 31/2 somersault in tuck position, one of the most difficult dives in the boks. Kalec has won nine national junior titles and one senior crown. He was a member of Canada's world championship team in 1998 and the 1995 Pan Am Games squad at age 15.

The 20-year-old science student started diving at age seven at the Pointe Claire Aquatic Centre and is now stationed at the CAMO Club in Montreal which produces most of Canada's national team members along with Dive Calgary. His other passion is music. He leads the three-man band Blind Haze, with two CAMO teammates: his younger brother, David and Etienne Gauthier.
