Julia Rivard is one of three new members on the women's Olympic K-4 500
metre crew. Rivard was born and raised in North Bay, Ont., and only moved
to Nova Scotia four years ago to pursue her training. Her first sport was
swimming and she only embarked in a kayak for the first time at age 19.
"I heard there was a real cute paddling coach in North Bay and decided to
try-out for the team," said Rivard, who eventually married the coach in
question, Trevor Marshall. "He was really inspirational and I quit
swimming that year."
Rivard plans to attend law school next year.
