Nadine Rolland was one of the biggest surprises on the Canadian swim team.
She unexpectedly made the squad in the 50-metre freestyle in her last
opportunity at the summer nationals last month in Winnipeg. Rolland went
under the qualifying standard clocking 25.94 however she finished third in
the race (only two can qualify per event). But Marianne Limpert, who tied
for first, was already qualified in several other events and gave up her 50
freestyle spot to Rolland.
What's more surprising is that Rolland started training for the 50
freestyle just two months before the nationals. She previously specialized
in the backstroke. She studied sports administration in France for two
years where she met her current coach Patrick Clement.
Women's 50-metre freestyle: Nadine Rolland, Brossard, Que., placed seventh in heat, eliminated.
