PROFILE: Caroline Brunet
Stojko, Brunet honored

Figure skater Elvis Stojko and canoeist Caroline Brunet were named athletes of the year yesterday at the Canadian Sport Awards in Toronto.

Stojko, of Richmond Hill, Ont., won the World Championship in 1997 and took the silver medal at the Nagano Olympics.

Brunet, of Lac- Beauport, Que., won three gold medals at the world paddling championships in Dartmouth, N.S., in August. She also won a silver medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

The national women's hockey team was named outstanding female team after winning the world championship. The team also brought home a silver medal from Nagano.

The outstanding pair of the year award went to rowers Alison Korn of Nepean, Ont., and Emma Robinson of Winnipeg. They won a gold medal at the world championships last summer.
