Thanks to everyone who sent their greetings and warm wishes to the great athletes of Team Canada. Your heartfelt sentiments helped spur Canada on to a best-ever 15 medals. Once again, thanks.

I'm a competitive swimmer. On they day that i watched Simon Whitfield win, i got a sudden urge to just plain win. I switched swim teams and now are training harder and more hours. Simon is a motivator. Every canadian athlete is. I remember one time at practise, i was so tired, it was near the end of practise and we had to do sprints and i was hurting so badly, but i thought "well kat, Simon was working way harder than this, pick up the speed." And i did. My coach noticed that i had picked up the speed as well. I live in Kingston Ont. and go to KCVI, Simon's old school, and yesterday , i met Simon. It was very cool to see him. The guy that had made me go faster that day at practise. As he was signing me an autograph, i said to myself "You have to shake his hand Kathleen, maybe it'll pump you up for your swim competition this weekend!" And i did. I'm pretty excited to see my result at this swim meet. All i can say is : -Thanks alot Simon -Kathleen Brown

All of you "athletes" should be ashamed of yourself. You lose a competition and blame it on lack of funds? Try a lack of GUTS! Third world countries are beating your ass because you are pathetic whiners and you have no spine. If you actually cared about your country, you would try a LOT harder and THEN maybe people might be interested in sponsoring you, but who wants to pump their hard-earned cash into some loser who comes in 32nd? Gimme a break!

Go Canada Go! Canada is doing pretty good in the Olympics this year. The U.S. totals our population in only 1 city like New York or Los Angeles some place like that. The U.S. definetly doesn't choose all their athletes from 1 city. But, we Canadians earned 12 medals and counting that's like winning 12 medals in 1 American city! When you think of it that way, it's amazing! thanxs, shannon p.s. Go Stacy Dales!

I have never been prouder to be canadian as I am watching all of you! No matter how many medals you bring home you all KICK ASS! How dare any of us couch potato, arm chair quaterbacks be disappointed in the medal count. That's just the icing on the cake. The fact that we have 311 people there is sweet enough. I heard the cheer that went up as the team walked into the stadium during the opening ceremonies, I stayed up for that. How many of these so called sports critics here at home can say that! John Heese and Mark Childs,(beach volleyball) I just wanted you guys to know that I have never seen anything quite like your game against brazil. I want to wish you both my truly heartfelt congratulations on how you both played. I truly hope there is no disappointment in your result because if it was judged on sportsmanship and how you play the game there is no doubt you are champions. I know this is repetitive but I guess I hope you can read this and know there are many canadians very proud to have you play, including myself. I have never played beach volleyball but would love to start sometime but I definetly love watching it. I wish you all the best in your future tournaments and thank you genevieve

I would appreciate if you could forward the attached message to Simon Whitfield Dear Simon, on behalf of the Council of the City of Corner Brook and the residents of Corner Brook, Newfoundland I would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to you on your gold medal performance at the Sydney Olympics. You certainly made all Canadians proud when you crossed the finished line and earned Canada our first medal of the Games and won the first ever medal in Triathlon. For Corner Brookers, we were especially proud that you used the Corner Brook Triathlon as one of the training grounds for your preparation for the Games and we were ecstatic when we heard our hometown recognized on the Olympic coverage. Your inspirational performance will certainly raise the profile of triathlon on the world stage and I am sure will bring many rewards to the sport of triathlon in Canada. Again congratulations and I hope you will be able to come back to compete in the Corner Brook Triathlon in 2001. If not make sure you come back for a visit. Mayor David Luther City of Corner Brook

You guys have converted my wife into a b-ball fan. I thought that was impossible to do. I hope that you guys go all the way but you must think about one thing at a time. 1.FRANCE Put everything that does not have to do with team France aside. You will have a chance to get to all the other stuff after you put France asleep. Canada Rocks the floor.

Well done to all who have placed in the medals. For those who have just missed - you have still done us very proud. Derick Porter and others have been excellent representatives for Canada, and should feel proud of their performances. It is very clear to us at home, that the level of funding, not the level of your commitment, is mainly responsible for some of our misses for the podium. Best regards, Thanks for your hard work. After watching a slightly underdone canadian team , at least in the pool, I was amazed at the composure, effort and perhaps most of the smiles of two canadian atheletes, Ms Joanne Malar & Ms Anne Montminy. I noticed Ms Malar at the 1999 pan pacs where she had a wondeful meet, possibly these, her last olympics was not her best result, nevertheless, the way she speaks and walks tall inspires many of us to behave the way a true sportsperson should.. If only more like her. Joanne please keep competing, some of us respect your efforts and admire the courage you apply. Similary, it was oh so special to see Ms Montminy grasp a medal in the diving, I noticed she put on such a spectacular display, Ms montminy behaves in such an elegant manner and besides she is a world class diver. these are the thing we here in Sydney admire, true competition and behaviour. Please Ms Montminy, lets us have the pleasure of enjoying your diving grave at few more international events. As an australian, I wish you and your team all the best, especially against the americans, and special regards to Ms Malar and Ms Montminy for their displays of true competition.. cheers Paul

Canada is very proud of ALL of you - regardless of whether you get a medal or not. Everyone should know the commitment all of you have made to your sport and if they don't they are losers themselves. I can hardly get a 45 minute workout in every second day let alone spend hours a day training as you do! You obviously sacrifice a great deal to even make the Olympic team and anyone with half a brain knows that. So cheer up Team Canada - regardless of what the media is saying - no one I know blames the athletes for the low medal count - we blame ourselves for not backing you better financially!! Keep up the great job and keep smiling - I always loved watching the Olympics and the Sydney Olympics have been awesome so far. Sincerely, Christy, Doug, Daniel and Nicki Robertson P.S. The trampoline was great to watch in the Olympics - Daniel is 3 years old and loves it at the Kawartha Gymnastics Centre here in Peterborough and was thrilled to see it on TV. To the Canadian Women's Softball team. I attended the first game of your schedule against the U.S. What a thrill it was for me to be in the stands to cheer on the Canadian team along with thousands of Canuck flag wavers too. I am formerly from Winnipeg now residing in Australia and I had such pride watching you fight. Way to go! Despite the loss to the U.S. it was still a thrill to watch you play. Enjoy the rest of the Olympics.

Hello to all Team Canada! I would like to send my congratulations to all the athletes just for making the team and making us proud in Canada. The coaches and all other participants should be holding their heads high as well. The medals that have been won so far have been won with grace and dignity and the emotions shown shine through the television screen and right into our hearts. I, too, cried and sang our national anthem along with Simon Whitfield. To those who are yet to compete in their field or are heading into the finals - good luck. I am watching, at any hour, as well as all of Canada and we are proud to see our maple leaf. Thank you for all the magical moments and continued success. Congratulations to every athlete who, through the qualification process of their individual discipline, are representing themselves, their supporters, and country at this amazing athletic event. To those who attain the rare distinction of medalling, to those who have performed to the best of their abilty, and to those who didn't get a chance to perform, Congratulations!

Man did you ever swim slow in Sydney Joanne!! I swear you would have drowned if you went any slower. My grandmother swims faster than you and she only has one leg!!). "I am happy getting 5th place. I'm getting married next year." Yeah? Big deal. Did your boyfriend do you before the games? Was that why your legs gave out? Thanks for nothing you Olympic has been.

I am writing this to all the athletes competing for Canada. I am so proud to be Canadian. Watching all the events, and watching everyone of you give it your all. You have done a great job and should be very proud of yourselves. I glow from happiness when you do, I am disappointed when you are, I cry when you do. I have a 6 year old son, who is very very athletic. Loves swimming, running, biking and now he wants to do a triathalon, we do "little" ones. and pretends he is Simon Whitfield. His finish ribbon is a bathrobe tie. His medals are old pins, but the excitement he has could be measured with yours. He is game for anything. Watchout 2012 Olympics. I look forward to watching more Olympics. Though you cannot acutally hear us, back home we are cheering for you. I hope you feel it in your heart. Good luck He loves diving so we are looking forward to that competition.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK CANADA!!!!! I have always enjoyed watching the Olympics. This year, I have perhaps watched a little more than other years. I usually have the games on while I'm doing my housework. Both my children (6 1/2 & 4 1/2)have been watching the games, even when I'm not with them. This is often our quiet together time. I was half heartily watching the men's triathlon, when Simon Whitfield managed to avoid the collision on the last leg of the cycle portion of the race. After that, we were glued to the TV. I'm sure he heard us (and the rest of Canada) cheering for him. (I still get shivers when they show re-runs Simon Whitfield passing the runner in front of him with just meters to go.) I got all choked up when he crossed the finish line. The tears were just running down my face. I still get tears in my eyes when I see him during the playing of our National Anthem. Both my Children stood up and sang along. I have tried to explain to them that they watched history being made. A CANADIAN won the first ever medal in the Triathlon. Congratulations to Simon, and all the rest of the Canadian team. We will be watching and cheering you all on. The Sukmawan Family Brampton Ontario

Sharon Donnelly Sharon, this is our third attempt to get through in the last 24 hrs, both times our computer has crashed. Please accept our appologies for the delay. We have both watched with a sense of pride and pleasure as your took the many tiresless roads and paths to obtain your dream of competing for Canada in the Olympics. It is hard to imagine those early days in Petawawa. I have always believed in dreams and it was great watching you obtain yours. This country needs great leaders. The contry wants our leaders to be credible and we want them to have a sense of direction. Leaders must be able to stand before us and confidently express an attractive image of the future - and we must be able to believe that they have the ability to take us there. For many thousands of Canadians , especially the young ones, your leadership and courage did just that. You and your teams mates have set the course for the future for many young men and women. Well done and congradualations. Enjoy Sydney - you deserve it! Alan, Jacky, Cam and Chris

Sharon Donnelly Sharon, We were sending you a message and the computer shut down. if you managed to receive our last please accept our appologies. If not, here goes.... a second attempt.. I have watch with great interest and pride since our early days in 2 Service Battalion as you took step after step to meet your life long dream of representing our country at the pinnacle of sports - the Olympics. This morning as we watched your race, from RVH in Barrie, Cam just had a reconstruction surgery of his ACL from a rugby injury, I could not have felt more proud to be a Canadian. Leaders breathe life into the hopes and dreams of others and enable them to see the exciting possibilities that the future holds. Dreams and visions are the forces that invent the future. This morning your actions and courage did just that for thousands of young Canadians and aspiring atheletes. Take care and thank-you. Alan, Jacky, Cam and Chris PS Enjoy Sydney

Howdy Michelle Lischinsky... Just wanted to wish you all the best in Sydney. It's a huge honour to just make the Canadian Olympic team and compete with the best in the world. I hope you enjoy your time out there, and just want you to know that everyone at the University is rooting for you ( I guess I can't use the word ROOTING... whoops, must be careful with my slang...my relatives from Australia keep telling me that's got a hugely different meaning out there than it does out here). In fact, I think I am going to either cancel teaching my Anatomy class at the University or maybe just teach out of Wise Guys on campus during the swimming events. Who would have thought going out with a swimmer would have turned me into such a huge swimming fan, even after the break up... HA!!! Good luck... and enjoy yourself.
