Staff at IOC hotel plan walkout
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Employees of a Sydney hotel where IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch will stay during the Olympics plan to walk off their jobs Monday in a pay dispute.
About 250 workers at the Regent, a plush downtown hotel with Sydney Harbor views, planned the work action to gain an hourly bonus for working extra hours during the Sept. 15-Oct. 1 games.
Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union assistant secretary Mark Boyd said Sunday the hotel management has refused to discuss a bonus. The strike would last four hours or longer, pending a staff vote.
