Americans win softball gold
 BLACKTOWN, Australia (AP) -- This one was never about revenge. This was about the gold medal.
 The U.S. softball team beat Japan 2-1 in eight innings Tuesday to win its second consecutive Olympic gold, reaffirming its dominance of the sport and completing a sweep of the three teams it lost to in the preliminary round.

Japan advances to gold medal game
 BLACKTOWN, Australia (AP) -- Japan advanced to the gold medal game of the Olympic softball tournament as Mariko Masubichi pitched a one-hitter to beat Australia 1-0.
 Reika Utsugi homered to lead off the fourth inning Monday (Sunday night EDT). The victory clinched at least a silver medal for Japan, which remained the tournament's only unbeaten team.
