One of the first major new developments in the Darling Harbour area, on the western edge of Sydney's central business district, was the Sydney Entertainment Centre, which opened in May 1983.
The Entertainment Centre is Sydney's premier popular music venue, and over the years acts as diverse as Barry Manilow and Metallica have strutted upon its stage.
It also hosts circuses, ballet, ice skating and sports such as tennis and indoor motor-cross. In its 17-year history there have been nearly 2500 events staged here, which have been attended by more than 15 million people.
Providing seating for 11,000 spectators, this indoor sports and entertainment facility will be the venue for indoor volleyball.
