Yugoslavia beats Russia for gold
 SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- It took an Olympic gold medal for the Yugoslav men's volleyball team to finally earn respect in a country that needs some new heroes.
 "They are looking at us as gods. We are their great warriors," Nikola Grbic said after Yugoslavia swept Russia for the championship on Sunday. "They can be proud of us, regardless of their problems."

Italy routs Argentina for bronze
 SYDNEY (AP) -- Italy ended the Olympics with another medal it didn't want, taking the bronze by routing Argentina 25-16, 25-15, 25-18.
 Andrea Sartoretti, Samuele Papi and Pasquale Gravina, who led Italy to every major international title in the past six years but couldn't win Olympic gold, made quick work of the underdog Argentines Sunday (Saturday night EDT).

 SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- The U.S. women's volleyball team struggled for years in the shadow of the men's team. The Sydney Games changed that dramatically: The women soared beyond everyone's expectations, while the men sank further than anyone imagined.
