Germany wins gold in luge doubles
 PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- Olympic rookies Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch of Germany won the gold medal in luge doubles on Friday, just ahead of the two American sleds as the United States won two medals in the event for the second straight time.
 Leitner and Resch finished the two-heat race in 1 minute, 26.082 seconds. Mark Grimmette of Muskegon, Mich. and Brian Martin of Palo Alto, Calif., won silver in 1:26.216. Chris Thorpe, of Marquette, Mich. and Clay Ives of Bancroft, Ontario won the bronze in 1:26.220.

Leitner-Resch of Germany lead after first heat
 PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch of Germany broke the track record and led the two United States sleds after the first run of luge doubles Friday.
 Leitner and Resch slid sixth in the field of 19 sleds and broke the track record with a run of 42.953 seconds.

U.S. out to build on their successes at Nagano
 PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- Chris Thorpe and Clay Ives jumped off their doubles sled, glanced up at the clock and smiled.
 "Our first run today was pretty sweet," Thorpe said Thursday after he and Ives had beaten the Olympic field in practice. "We tested a new speed suit, which will definitely help us in the race. We're feeling good."

Germans finish 1-2-3 in women's luge
 PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- The long road back was golden for Sylke Otto.
 Otto won the gold medal in women's luge Wednesday, pulling away from teammates Barbara Niedernhuber and Silke Kraushaar in the final two heats as Germany swept all three medals in the event for the fifth time.

 PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- A warm hug from her dad meant more to Becky Wilczak than an Olympic medal ever could.
 Wilczak finished fifth Wednesday in the luge competition at the Salt Lake City Games, matching the highest ever by an American. She wasn't going back to Park Forest, Ill., with a medal dangling from her neck.
