He has the artistry. He has the jumps. He has the talent. Emmanuel Sandhu is almost the complete package when you try to describe the ideal figure skater in men's singles. Now he needs to put it all together at one competition. It seems inevitable that day will come. Maybe it could happen at the Olympic Games.

At the recent Canadian championships, Sandhu's overall performance was reflective of his career so far.

  Inconsistent.

He was pleased with his ability to manage his mental strength for the short program. He landed a quad-double jump combo, a triple Axel and triple Lutz and posted the best scores.

But then in the long program he couldn't deliver the goods. He balked on a planned quad at the start of the routine. That seemed to discourage him and he made four noticeable mistakes in total to finish second.

Sandhu was discovered at age eight in a Vancouver rink by his current coach and choreographer Joanne McLeod. She eventually convinced him to leave the National Ballet of Canada school and hit the ice. He won the junior title in 1997, then in 1998 at the national championships he landed nine triples to earn the first of three consecutive silvers. Last year with Stojko injured, he claimed a first Canadian crown.
