Feds provide training cash
LONDON, Ont. — The federal government is putting $5 million into a training fund to make southern Ontario manufacturers more competitive.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MP Bev Shipley made the announcement Monday at the Armo Tool plant near Lambeth, Ont.
The funds from the Federal Economic Development Agency (FEDDEV) will be distributed through the Yves Landry Foundation to companies across southern
Ontario who apply for training assistance. A similar $2-million allocation for northern Ontario was also announced Monday.
Armo president Ben Whitney said his company has received about $100,000 from the Landry foundation in recent years, which has helped the company expand into new markets.
The tool and die company supplies the auto sector and employs about 110 people. Armo will soon start a 10,000-sq.-ft. expansion, increasing its size by 25%.
