At more than 600 hectares, it will be the largest and most ambitious project in the city's history.
The core development, located on Highway 7 just east of Highway 400, will feature a tree-lined avenue with a distinctive traffic roundabout at each end.
Avenue Seven will be at the centre of a bustling business and entertainment district which will offer all the amenities of a big city lifestyle within a short walking distance. It also will feature a new subway station as part of the proposed Spadina subway extension.
No longer the small bedroom community it was 20 years ago, Vaughan is now one of Canada's fastest growing cities. Last year, building permits topped the billion dollar mark for the third consecutive year.
The city is rapidly becoming the destination of choice for people who are looking to work and live in the same community. With more than 7,000 businesses, Vaughan offers residents extensive employment opportunities.
Modern community centres, wonderful parks, a wide range of housing, convenient shopping areas and some of the top tourist attractions in the Greater Toronto Area all contribute to a quality of life that is second to none.
The Vaughan Enterprise Zone is another new development in the western portion of the community, strategically located to accommodate future industrial and commercial expansion. This area, which covers more than 1,000 hectares, is supported by an extensive transportation network of highways, rail lines and the nearby international airport.
In addition, the city is working to establish the high-technology infrastructure that will allow Vaughan companies to position themselves at the leading edge of the new digital
economy.
In Vaughan's highly diversified local economy, more than 80% of the companies are small businesses. Vaughan's Business Enterprise Centre provides new or existing small businesses with access to a vast array of information that will support their efforts to grow.
Entrepreneurs moving to the area will find consulting services, export market development assistance, and assistance with starting and registering their own businesses at the Business Enterprise Centre.
Vaughan prides itself on having one of the lowest tax rates in the Greater Toronto Area. This is largely due to Vaughan's ongoing commitment to building well-planned communities with a healthy balance of commercial, industrial and residential development.
