Cambrian College's Dental Hygiene program has been honoured with an Oral-B Health Promotion Award.
The Awards program, which is sponsored by the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) and Oral-B Laboratories, is designed to encourage hygienists to promote oral health in their communities, particularly during National Dental Hygienists Week.
There are three categories in the Oral-B Health Promotion Awards program. Cambrian College was recognized in the Dental Hygiene School category.
The Award consists of a $2,000 prize, $1,000 of which will be presented to the College's Dental Hygiene program and $1,000 of which will be awarded to the Sudbury and District Dental Hygienists Component Society.
The College will also receive recognition in the March/April issue of Probe, the national magazine published by the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association.
Students in the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant programs at Cambrian organized a Walk for a Smile event on Oct. 20, 2003 to raise funds for comfort kits containing oral care and dental hygiene products for distribution to less-advantaged citizens in the community. Over 110 participants walked a five-kilometre route, collecting pledges that were used to purchase 500 comfort kits.
