Jerry Agyare registered for training in JVS Toronto's Youth Services Retail Training Program, YouthCents-Dufferin in March 2003.

Throughout the training, Agyare's performance and commitment was exceptional. He had never worked in the retail industry prior to this opportunity, but it soon became obvious he had skills that would allow him to be successful and he was able to transfer these directly to employment. His attendance and attitude were impeccable and he always had a smile for everyone.

Agyare was provided a direct connection to Sport Chek-Eaton Centre. Head manager Brendan Costigan met with Agyare and offered him a four-week on-the-job training placement.

As a result of Costigan's willingness to invest training time, and Agyare's excellent work ethic and willingness to learn, Agyare secured a full-time job.

He began his sales associate position in April 2003, and was offered a trainee management position a year later.

Sport Chek has partnered with JVS Toronto for more than two years and continues to demonstrate their commitment to helping youth become contributing members of society.

Without employers like Sport Chek, who are willing to partner with youth serving agencies and support local youth, the chance for success of youth becoming vital members of tomorrows workforce will be lessened.
