College grads are optimistic

With the spring college graduation season upon us, seniors are more optimistic about finding a job this year than they were last year.

But if they can't land a position in their field, 35 per cent said they'd take a temporary position or do odd jobs to earn money. That was up from 32 per cent who answered the same question in a similar poll last year.

The results are from Yahoo! HotJobs' 2004 College Survey, which involved 680 college seniors.

More than half of soon-to-be-graduates, 53 per cent, have not started looking for full-time employment and more than one-third believe it will take less than three months to find their first jobs.

Course on firefighting

Toronto Services will offer career preparation courses this fall. This 12-week Seneca College accredited course will include training by professional firefighters. For information, call 416-392-FIRE or visit www.toronto.ca/fire/recruitment.

You can go home again

Centennial College alumni, students, faculty, staff and neighbours are getting together on Saturday, June 5 to mark the end of an era and say goodbye to Warden Woods -- Ontario's first community college campus.

Established in 1966, Warden Woods will officially close its doors in September, giving way to the new Centennial HP Science and Technology Centre, located on Morningside Avenue in Scarborough.

Friends of Centennial are invited to stroll down Memory Lane with live entertainment, kids' activities, a barbecue and refreshments, starting at 1 p.m. The final pub night will include a dance in the old campus gym, starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Centennial's Warden Woods Campus is located at 651 Warden Ave., one kilometre south of the Warden subway station. For more details, call 416-289-5218, or visit www.centennialcollege.ca.
