Corey Schwab traded from Thrashers to Canucks

VANCOUVER (Ticker) -- Goaltender Corey Schwab never got a chance to play for the Atlanta Thrashers before being acquired today by the Vancouver Canucks.
The Thrashers received a conditional draft pick in 2000 for Schwab, who had spent this season in the minor leagues.
Schwab, 28, was taken from the Tampa Bay Lightning in the June expansion draft but was with the team's Orlando affiliate in the International Hockey League this season. He was 3-1-1 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage in five games for the Solar Bears.
The 6-foot, 180-pounder played in a career-high 40 games for the hapless Lightning last season, compiling an 8-25-3 record with a 3.52 GAA.
Schwab has spent parts of four seasons in the NHL. He played in 10 games for the New Jersey Devils in 1995-96 before being dealt to Tampa Bay prior to the 1996-97 season. Overall, he has a 21-49-5 record and a 3.18 GAA in 97 games.
With Garth Snow hurt, Kevin Weekes has taken over as Vancouver's top goaltender. Backup Alfie Michaud took the loss against Phoenix on Thursday but the Canucks remained in first place in the Northwest Division with 15 points.
